The Simplicity of Being Present: how the power of a pause can restore balance to your inner world

I close my eyes and take away all of the visual distractions that keep me from seeing what’s happening around me. When my eyes are open, there is often so much going on. Some of it is in my control — often it’s not.

With my eyes closed, my other senses get to speak. They want to be heard and felt too. Messages surface more clearly in the quiet. It becomes easier to be in the present moment — in the Power of Now, as Eckhart Tolle describes.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.  That’s why we call it the present” - Winnie the Pooh

It’s funny how even this Winnie the Pooh quote can surface in that stillness 😂 — perhaps because simplicity speaks loudest when everything else quiets down.

I thrive in quietness. For me, there’s a delicate balance between interacting with the world and retreating into solitude. I know when I need to “top myself up” — the desire for a quiet space becomes strong. It's not complicated. Just simple. Easily achievable.

I can feel the difference energetically between being surrounded by people and being in solitude.

Stillness doesn’t have to take long. It can be a micro-moment — a conscious breath. Short or long, what matters is intention. Is it long enough to nourish you?

Watching the rhythm of the breath brings us back to something natural and steady. Feeling your feet in your shoes, touching the floor, grounds you instantly. These small acts anchor you in the present.

We are all unique. No one is exactly the same. In a world that grows busier and constantly changes, figuring out what makes you tick — your values, what makes you YOU — matters deeply.

What happens when we pause? When we listen?

Stillness can feel like a relief. An “ahhhh” moment.

And perhaps that is the simplicity of being present — returning to your inner world, yourself, one breath at a time.
