Slowing Down: Reflections by the Fire
I'm sitting by the fire tonight, feeling the last days of May slip quietly by. It has me reflecting on how fast the year is moving—and what I’ve achieved so far. In just a week, my new course Move Breathe Relax 101 will go live. That sentence still feels surreal.
Back in March, I wrote about the challenges of filming myself on video and wrangling with software that didn’t want to play nicely. The learning curve was steep—both personally and technically. Honestly, there were moments I wanted to give up. But I didn’t.
Instead, I shifted my thinking and kept going after taking breaks outside in the fresh air and sunshine.
Over the past two months, I’ve been working behind the scenes with Fiona from The Awakened Guru to bring this project into the world. Together, we’ve been building the course portal—and now, the finish line is in sight. Fiona is hosting my course on her platform, alongside offerings from other practitioners, and I’m so grateful for her support.
Move Breathe Relax 101 is a grassroots short course designed for anyone feeling overwhelmed. It’s a gentle reminder of how the simplest tools—movement, breath, and deep rest—can help us release tension and reset. When we allow ourselves to slow down, something remarkable happens: physically, mentally, and emotionally, we begin to soften and release what we no longer need.
That said, not everyone enjoys moving slowly. In fact, for many, the idea of slowing down is uncomfortable—even confronting. But have you ever noticed what happens in your mind when things get still? Is there resistance because stillness requires presence?
Even the way we consume on-line content reflects this: podcasts and videos now come with playback speed controls. 1.25x, 1.5x, even 2x—anything to cram more in. It feels like a sign of the times, doesn’t it?
And yet, maybe this is exactly why we need to slow down. Not as a luxury, but as a necessity.
“At least once a day sit down for a few minutes by yourself, stop moving, stop thinking and just BE. Deliberately be still. Close your eyes, relax, breathe, be aware “You are experiencing You.” — Yoga The Spirit And Practice Of Moving Into Stillness: Erich Schiffmann
Slowing down invites us back to ourselves. That’s the heart of Move Breathe Relax 101. I can't wait to share it with you soon.
